Vampire Academy

Hey ya'll! How you guys doing? I'm good by the way thanks for asking! HAHA! Okay, I'm talking to myself now.... odd. Whatever. 

So I'm going to talk about a new book series I've been reading lately. and I guess the curiousity is pretty much worth it, I'm currently reading the Vampire Academy series.

Vampire Academy is written by Richelle Mead and the story is about a 17 year old dhampir girl (a.k.a vampire) name Rosemarie Hathaway has to protect her friend Vasilissa Dragonmir, a royal Moroi princess (also another vampire species) from danger because she's the last surviving princess of the Dragonmir royal family. 

The book starts off with Rosemarie and Lissa being away from their school St. Vladimir Academy for 2 years and they were found and captured by a dhampir Guardian Dimitri Belikov, to bring them back to St. Vladimir. 

Usually, I don't read any vampire stories (except for Twilight that's the only vampire book I've read) and I have to say that the Vampire Academy series, is no doubt better than Twilight? Why? Simple. The female lead character, Rosemarie is a pretty badass character, she has a really smart mouth and tough, and the attitude of You-Won't-Stand-In-My-Way-Or-I'll-Kill-You. 

She's then trained to become a Guardian, a protector towards the Moroi vampires especially the royal family from another species vampire, the Strigoi, but this vampire is considered evil as they hunt and kill. They are just like normal typical vampires like they were made not born as a vampire, they can't go under the sunlight, and of course they hunt for blood.

At first, I don't get what's the difference of the Dhampirs, Moroi, and Strigoi and then I realized that they are different vampires with different characteristics.

From the 1st book, Rosemarie already discovered that she's having a crush on her mentor Guardian Dimitri Belikov that was until they almost have sex, no thanks to that charm necklace. But for Rosemarie and Dimitri to be involved in a relationship is forbidden, because of their age difference and the fact that student-teacher relationship is not permitted at all. Hmmm.... sounds like those typical student-teacher relationship stories I read on Wattpad. 

Throughout the story as well, Rosemarie discovered that she is bonded with Lissa, in other words 'Shadow-kissed'. This happens when a spirit user in this case, Lissa brings that person back to life the bond of the shadow kiss is already inside of Rosemarie, but only the person being alive back again can feel the connection, in other words, the 'bond' only works one way. As the bond can see what that person sees, and feels as well.

The book is good overall, and I really enjoyed it. Especially on the character development. And I can't wait to read the 2nd book.
